IPTV on Apple TV: App Store Compatibility Guide
Apple TV runs tvOS, a closed platform where every app, IPTV players included, must be published through Apple's App Store and comply with its review guidelines.
What this means in practice
Because sideloading isn't available on tvOS the way it is on Android-based devices, IPTV apps for Apple TV are limited to whatever is currently listed in the App Store. Apps like IPTVX, GSE Smart IPTV and iPlayTV are commonly used, but availability and features can change if Apple's review policies shift, always check the App Store listing directly rather than assuming an app is still available.
Setup steps
- Install a compatible IPTV app from the Apple TV App Store, see our apps overview.
- Open the app and locate its playlist or Xtream Codes login screen.
- Enter your subscription's connection details, using the Siri Remote or a paired keyboard for faster typing.
- Load your channel list and test playback.
iPhone and iPad follow the same rules
The same App Store constraints apply to IPTV apps on iPhone and iPad, both platforms share Apple's app review process, so an app available on one is often, but not always, available on the other.
